Hello, MAP Families!

As you might know, our students have been working hard to persevere through challenges in planning the end of year trip. Through this process, we outlined the following goals for a community trip:

  • Community building

  • Experiential learning that is fun and enjoyable

  • Disconnect from day-to-day

  • Develop planning skills

  • Develop problem solving skills and adaptability

  • Manage finances

  • Gain practical skills: meal preparation, shopping, cleaning, starting a fire, making reservations, etc.

  • Trying new things and taking safe risks

  • Interpersonal communication and team accountability

With these goals in mind, the students planned a “staycation” for next week. Please find the details of the week below.

Monday - Hiking, Swim Party and Family Potluck

We will go hiking at Castlewood State Park followed by a pool party at Katelyn’s house, which is near Castlewood. MAP families are invited to join the pool party for a potluck dinner at 6pm. Tami and Eric Presley will generously provide a main course (grilled meats) and all students/families are asked to bring a side to share.

Transportation: Morning drop off will take place as usual. Afternoon pick up will be at the Presley’s by 8pm (6 if you plan to swim and participate in the potluck). If you need other ride arrangements, please let us know and we will assist.

Presley’s Address: 1384 Red Oak Plantation Dr., Ballwin, MO 63021

Items to remember: picnic lunch, potluck side dish (student or family can bring), swimsuit, towel, sunscreen

Tuesday - MAP Olympics, Southwest Diner, Student Potluck Dinner, and Overnight Lock-In

Students will compete in teams in a variety of events at both Forest Park and MAP, take a lunch break at Southwest Diner, and spend the night at MAP.

Transportation: Morning drop off will take place as usual. There will be no afternoon pickup due to the overnight.

Items to remember: Athletic clothing, water bottle, sunscreen, potluck dinner item, sleeping bag/bedding, change of clothes, toiletries, swimwear, sunscreen, water shoes, towel, picnic lunch for Wednesday

Wednesday - Float Trip

We will do a raft float on the Huzzah River from the Huzzah Valley Resort, and will return to MAP for regular dismissal. Breakfast will be provided. Safety information and liability waiver will follow.

Transportation: There will be no morning drop off due to the overnight. Afternoon pickup will happen as usual.

Additional costs: We are asking families to contribute $30 per student to support food and activity costs.

Thank you for your patience as the students work through this important process. Please let me know if you have any questions. We are looking forward to a great week!
